Uyuni: world’s largest salt flat, located in one of the highest deserts on earth (you can actually see it from space). So what you ask? Its infinitely white and blue scenery is simply surreal. What is more, during the rainy season (well, actually it is called as so but rain is very scarce there) it becomes the largest mirror on earth. And this is when its surrealism start to manifest even more. The reflection of the sky gives the impression you are in the infinite. It even feels as if in heaven. At night, it becomes a three-dimensional planetarium – as if you were floating in space among stars. So the setting is definitely awe-inspiring. Let’s add to this crucial elements such as, you:
To start with, stay in salt hotels (obviously extracted and built with local salt blocks). They are surprisingly great insulators; something that come in handy during those cold nights. And even though, literally in the middle of nowhere, you will be hosted with great amenities and services. You will appreciate warm meals; given the fact that besides pizza, you won’t find much alternative within the town. What else to do here? Self-driving the Uyuni Salt Flat is so much fun! How about hot air balloons in Uyuni? Hop on and get an astonishing view from atop; after admiring, the impression of how vast and beautiful is the world will remain within you. And of course, our favorite: luxury campers in Uyuni. Although only available during dry seasons, this is one experience that cannot be ignored. It is perfect for couples. Picture yourself (and your significant one), alone, in the middle of the salt flat, nothing but infinite white around you. Though some opt to cook for themselves, we usually arrange a private chef to cook for you. And if anything happens, not to worry, you will always be connected with a satellite radio to your guide whom will be a distance away to guarantee privacy. Grilling there is fun too; we can head to the local market and buy the ingredients. We will arrange the equipments and voila! We have one of the most remote grills on the planet, seasoned of course, with local salt – we can stop by a processing factory first.
We are among the first to tailor journeys here. We thus have been offering the best tours in Uyuni, but given our nature to re-invent and evolve, we invite you to consider combining it with other experiences. Take for instance, desert crossing to Chile’s Atacama or perhaps Argentina’s Jujuy (just ask about it to one of our journey designers). Suitably named as Dali’s Desert (Siloli Desert), it is surrounded by red and green colored lakes with flocks – or grammatically and even “poetically” correct, flamboyance – of pink flamingos, hot geyser fields, surreal rock formations, and mountains that reach 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) above sea level. Since you are already there and most probably won’t have the opportunity to return, we encourage you to explore this area; it is simply something that cannot be missed. It is one of the most unique tours to South America; a dream-like tour – alluring, inspirational, spiritual, fulfilling, adventurous, authentic... Indeed, it is a SURTREK journey.
“We had a great time in the jungle. Our experience was amazing. Can’t wait to tell you more about it.”
