Colombian Coffee Tour - 7 Nights Itinerary

Well, we cannot offer you to meet the very same Juan Valdez. After all, he is a fictional character (yep… sorry if we have disappointed you). Nevertheless, his “soul” remains (this sounded mournful). What we want to say is, he is sculpted based on the traditional “cafetero” of Colombia. Now this, we can offer you – not only to meet one, but experience his lifestyle, learn his culture, and perhaps even observe his way of viewing life (eg café). We invite you, not only to have a taste to one of the highlights of Colombia, but to one of the most unique tours in South America.

Before we even start with an introductory description, let us make clear: We love this “brown-amberish nectar of the gods”; both specialty and conventional ones. Although definitely one can appreciate the hard-work of a farmer in specialty coffees, we also appreciate how the “conventional” ones has literally sculpted its culture. As a result, we have combined both experiences of visiting specialty coffee farms in Colombia and traditional ones.

A coffee experience cannot be immersed without first exploring what constitutes as “Colombiano”; thereby having a clearer appreciation of what makes Colombian “golden grains/beans” different from others. During this 8-day program (of course, this is a suggested itinerary), you will first visit Colombia’s capital, Bogota, whose glimmering highlights include its world-famous Museo del Oro. Since you’re already there, why not visit the ‘Paloquemao’ market? Surely you will have a taste of the Colombian rhythm here. From there you will travel deep into the nation’s famous coffee-triangle to spend time in the city of Armenia and its surrounding countryside. Some of the fincas you will be visiting are: Recuca, San Alberto and Café Inspiración (though of course, we can always customize your visits ). You will be witnessing the careful processes of the “caffeinated-cycle”. From seed to harvest, varieties, history and culture… Processes such as washed, honey and natural… Even drying processes; it will be a thorough experience. We will visit roasters and renowned cafes where internationally-acclaimed baristas will share their experiences and, of course, cup. This is the best part! Understand the importance of brewing and extracting methods, and attributes of each of them – drips such as chemex, aeropress, and of course, espressos, etc.

Before returning to Bogota, you will venture to village of San Augustin, where enigmatic stone figures stand sentinel in the middle of a spectacular landscape will take you back in time to an era before the Spanish conquest. Be aware though, that after your trip, your palate will most probably been influenced and hence, you will be much more demanding when having a single cup of coffee. As a matter of fact, within our own office, the caffeinated-culture has grown in such a way that we have our own specialist as a result (if curious, ask for Tamaki).

By the way, ask one of our journey designers how to complement your Colombian experience. There are so many things to sense; the Caribbean region alone offers a warm and exotic side. So let’s plan now, and follow the subtle aromas!
