Not all honeymoons are created equal! If honeymoon adventure destinations are what you seek, Peru has plenty. Here are four of our favorite must-see spots in Peru for adventure-loving couples:

Sacred Valley

Sacred Valley is as rare and special as its name implies. There’s so much to do here! Perfect for your list of honeymoon adventure destinations, spend your days getting in touch with the ancient history of the Incas at archaeological sites like Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero. Couple that with outdoor treks, local markets, river rafting, kayaking, birdwatching, paddle boarding, rock climbing and more, and this will be one adrenaline-pumping honeymoon, indeed. (Pro tip: Base yourself in Cusco! Sacred Valley is just a day trip from there.)

Machu Picchu

You can’t go to Peru and not see Machu Picchu! There are multiple ways to get to the top, based on the level adventure you seek. (But trust us, because of Machu Picchu’s remote location, even the “easy” routes still call for a long travel day.) The easiest way to explore it would be to stay at a hotel in Aguas Calientes—or if you’re willing to spend some money, even the luxurious Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel directly outside of the entrance to Machu Picchu—and wake up early to meander to the top. Second, you can stay in Cusco and spend four hours round trip on the Vistadome, an all-glass train that takes you right through the heart of the stunning Andes. The last option is to start at Kilometre 82, named because of its location 82 kilometers along the railroad from Cusco to Machu Picchu, and do the classic four-day Inca trail hike. Keep in mind that this last option involves camping. Whichever you choose, adventure awaits!

After you’ve seen the Andes from one of its most prominent peaks, Machu Picchu, it’s time to go deeper: into the hidden ruins of Choquequirao. Buried in a cloud forest in a remote corner of the Andes, and reached only by a four-day trek by foot and mule, this is the ultimate “lost city.” Go with a guide and camp your way there. It has everything honeymoon adventure destinations need: you, your special someone, a new place to discover together and Mother Nature’s finest.

Even the most adventurous honeymooners still need a few days to recharge. When it’s time for that, head to the sleepy fishing villages of Mancora! Decidedly off the beaten path, this part of Peru is where you go for remote beaches, desert sandboarding and good surfing. Fun fact: Mancora claims to be the birthplace of surfing, so you know you have to try it there.
