It is South America’s pride. In addition to awe-inspiring landscapes, it is home to dozens of distinct cultural groups – each with their own language, history and civilization – flora, fauna and scenery. However, they all share the same, let’s say, spirit. There is this air, sense… Something mystical; something that sounds like a whisper but feels like a gentle caressing breeze. You can feel it; whether during a hiking in the Ecuadorian paramo, observing the ruins of Machu Picchu surrounded by fog, or in the silence on top of the Aconcagua, there it is. It manifests in a form of, almost as some kind of reward. We like to keep it as such – an indescribable experience. In this manner, we invite you to step into this alluring and mysterious land; you may just remember what we have tried to describe.
Your interests would not matter; the Andes is a land waiting to be explored and sensed. Make cultural contacts or connect with nature — by hiking, mountain trekking, white-water rafting or even herding wild horses across the lunar landscape of the paramo highlands — countless activities awaits. Experience what living in this pace is. You will feel time is slower, emotions calmer yet soothing… The planet will somehow seem so vast and beautiful; you may feel gratitude for being alive on this world. Even in “simple events” such as staying at an hacienda will give you opportunities to such sensations. Short lapses such as, rolling into a cozy alpaca poncho in front of the fireplace with a hot cocoa, staring out the hazy landscape from your window in silence. It is precisely in these moments that such “mystics” occur. But in order to immerse into the altiplano, one has to go out horseback riding. You may go slow, on a point where you are not sure where you are. You just follow the guide (the chagra) ahead you. A thick fog interrupts your sight and you only hear a nicker in front of you. You look at your horse, and she seems calm, which in turn it calms you. Then the scene clears out to a boundless landscape of lakes and golden feathergrass. You have no idea what it is, but you are moved with gratitude. Then, as if greeting you, a condor flies over you with majesty. Now that you feel relieved, you start to feel hungry. As if the chagra already knows, he starts to set the picnic. There are so many “moments” you will have to experience for yourself. This is not an invitation to a conventional excursion or a night stay at a luxury hacienda. This is about sensing the Andes; the luxury is manifested through the experiences here.
We at SURTREK value such “little things”. The Andes has a very special place in our passion; after all, we began operations specializing in this beautiful region. Many clients have described as the most unique tours in Ecuador and this truly makes us proud. We are always nostalgic and happy to tailor travelers the journey to this noble land. Let’s start designing an inspiring journey just for you.
“The trip was excellent from beginning to end. The Isabella II was a fine ship and the crew and guides were all of the highest quality. I would recommend them to others. For us, the ship was the perfect size – not too small and not too large”
